GLIN SUMMER FESTIVAL: This years festival is being held on Friday 9, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August.  To mark the 1st Anniversary of Glin Heritage Trails, we are running a Poetry and   Art competition. It is open to Children under 12, Children over 12 and adults (over 18). The theme is “The Knight’s Walk”. All entries (either art or poetry) for the competition must be completed and submitted on or before Friday 2 August.  All entries must have: Name and a contact number attached.  Please submit your work to Peg at Glin Library, where it will be exhibited on the run up to the festival.  Winners will be announced on the Saturday evening in the square after Beat on the Street.  Winners of the best entries will be put forward for entry into the Ballyguiltenane Journal and into a booklet being produced by the Glin Historical Society.  Best of luck

GLIN BABY AND TODDLER GROUP: is now closed for the summer and will return in September.

GLIN RED CROSS COFFEE MORNING: We had a fantastic response to our coffee morning held at O’Shaughnessy’s Bar and Kitchen.  It was a fantastic sunny day, and a fabulous array of home baked goods were donated.  A big thank you to all who contributed money, baking and of course their time for this very worthwhile event.  Thanks to Thomas O’Shaughnessy who allowed us the use of his wonderful pub and courtyard.  What a wonderful location for a coffee morning!  There was a staggering E680 raised on the morning and these funds will be put to very good use for the Glin Red Cross.


GLIN CASTLE AFTERNOON TEA PARTY AND GARDEN TOUR: Tickets are now available for the Glin Afternoon Tea Party and Garden Tour taking place on Sunday the 4 August.  Please contact any member of Glin Development or Brides Boutique.  Last year proved outstanding success and we would advise people to book tickets to avoid disappointment.

TRI-GLIN: A Sprint distance Triathlon will take place in Glin on the 20 July, consisting of a 750m swim, a 20k cycle and a 6k run.  For more information contact Marie Geohegan on 087 2418562 or Joanne Culhane on 087 9716199.

GLIN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION: The on-going summer works are almost complete in the Town Park and we hope to unveil a sculpture piece to commemorate the finishing industry of bygone days commissioned by local artist Pat O Loughlin, during the festival weekend.

CLEAN-UP: Please come together on Friday evening next at 7.00pm in the Town Park for a clean-up of our lovely town.  Bring along any gardening equipment you may have such as spades, yard brushes, garden tools, wheelbarrow etc.

BE VIGILANT: due to the most recent damage to a car in the Glin Park car park, we are asking people to be vigilant and not leave any valuables in their cars.

Glin Rovers F.C. have a correct score card competition in Pubs and Shops at the moment for the Munster Hurling Final between Limerick and Cork.  100 Euro to the person with correct scorecast etc.


Glin Rovers FC will be offering a yearly season ticket to its lotto in the coming weeks. A Season Ticket will be 85 Euro and all subscribers will be entered in our lotto draw each week for a 12 month period.  Our Lotto is the main source of the income for the club and all support is greatly appreciated.

ICA: Will hold a Whist Drive at Cloverfield Centre Tuesday next July 16 at 8.30pm.  All welcome.


LIMERICK WEST GIY: with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food goes on the road for the next few months.  This month we will pay a visit Rachel O’Gradys in Askeaton on Thursday 18 July with meeting time for the garden tour scheduled for 7pm.  Rachel has both fruit and vegetable areas.  Rachel is a very experienced organic grower and is always willing to share her knowledge.  If you plan to attend and need directions please text your name to 0879918956.
