CHARITY CYCLE: Glin GAA Charity Cycle in association with Mid West Cancer takes place on Saturday 17 August.  Registration is at 9am.  Cost E30.  All are welcome.

GLIN SUMMER FESTIVAL: 9, 10 and 11 August 2013.

Friday 9 August: 9.30pm Festival Pub Quiz at Wallace’s Bar.

Saturday 10 August

7am – Shore Angling Competition entry E10.  Please meet at Hogan’s lay-by Coast Road.  Prizes for 1st & 2nd heaviest fish.  Contact Kenneth 085 7152 001.

11am Teddy Bears Picnic at St. Paul’s. All welcome.

12pm – 2pm Conway Cup under 16 Round Robin Tennis Tournament. Contact Sean 086 023 2029 for more information.

2pm 6K Festival Fun Run/Walk.   Registration at 1pm sharp.  Entry E10.  Under 16 free and must be accompanied by an adult.

5pm – 7pm Children’s Entertainment Evening in the square Balloon Release, Beat on the Street, Magic Show featuring ‘Sylvano’ and more.

7pm Festival Mass

7.30pm Unveiling of the Sculptor in the town Park designed by local artist Pat O Loughlin to commemorate the Salmon fishing industry of the 1800’s on the Shannon estuary. Followed by Street entertainment in the square: Sheaf Throwing, ‘Evening’ Market Stalls, Barman’s Race, Slow Bike Race, Periwinkle eating competition and more.

I.C.A. Craft Exhibition in O’ Shaughnessy’s Saturday 2pm-11pm & Sunday 11.30am-3.30pm, 5.30pm -11pm.


6K FUN RUN/WALK: This event will take place on Saturday 10 August at 2pm sharp.  Registration will take place in the square at 1pm.  Entry fee E10, under 16’s  free.  The route takes in Caheragh, Clonughter, Kilfergus Glin.  Open to all ages, children included.  Special characters on route!

FUN DAY: in Glin GAA field from 2pm on Sunday 11th August.  Fancy Dress Parade, Local Sheaf Throwing, Terrier Racing, Tug of War, Mobile Petting Farm, Wellie throwing, Mother, Father and Toddler race, Penalty Shoot-out, Face Painting, Lots of Fun Games, Bonny Baby up to 12 months, Trendy Toddler up to 3yrs, Glamorous Granny, Strongman Competition, Horseshoe fling, Milk the cow, Family plank walk, Wheelbarrow Race and much more.

BBQ, Hot Dogs, Cake and Sweets Stall, Refreshments etc.

6 – 8pm Tea Dance at Ceol Corbrai, Community Hall, Glin organised by Glin Comhaltas.


Glin Festival ‘EVENING’ market infoThe evening market will coincide with other events that are taking place on Saturday evening at the festival.  Market stalls are open to everyone and will open to the public at 5pm.  Stall fee E10 – you must provide your own tables/coverings and power if required.  Stall set up from 4pm, stalls are required to set up from outside Glin Library and down the town.  For further information contact: Rachel 087 319 2449 or Maire 087 944 1237


GLIN FESTIVAL POETRY AND ART COMPETITION: To mark the 1st Anniversary of Glin Heritage Trails, we are running a Poetry & Art competition.  It is open to Children under 12, Children over 12 and adults (over 18).  The theme is “The Knight’s Walk”. All entries (either art or poetry) for the competition must be completed and submitted on or before Thursday 8 August (this date has been extended from 2 August).  All entries must have: Name and a contact number attached.  Please submit your work to Peg at Glin Library, where it will be exhibited on the run up to the festival.  Winners will be announced on the Saturday evening in the square after Beat on the Street.  Winners of the best entries will be put forward for entry into the Ballyguiltenane Journal and into a booklet being produced by the Glin Historical Society – BEST OF LUCK


GLIN CASTLE AFTERNNON TEA PARTY AND GARDEN TOUR: The last few remaining tickets are available for the Glin Castle Afternoon Tea Party and Garden Tour taking place on August 4.  Last year proved outstanding success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Bride’s Boutique are sponsoring numerous prizes during the day for best hat or headpiece.  Keane’s Jewellers are also sponsoring prize’s throughout the afternoon.  Please contact Siobhan on 0879944245 or Bride’s Boutique on 06834331.
