Glin Red Cross Defibrillator No: 0876230032

Excerpt from Bishop Leahy’s letter:

Dear Parishioner, As you know, on Saturday 27th September I formally announced my intention to convene a diocesan synod for 2016.  The process of preparation has now begun in earnest and a key aspect of this preparation will be the recruitment of delegates who will attend the actual Synod in Spring 2016.  Each parish will be represented by four delegates but it is worth remembering that apart from the contribution of the delegates there will be many opportunities for others to be involved along the process of the Synod.  The recruitment of delegates is an extremely important step on the journey as much of the success of the entire process will depend on the delegates so I ask you to ‘spread the net’ far and wide.  You can do this by making the Pastoral Letter widely available and encouraging parishioners to engage in the process and apply to be a delegate.  Application Forms to become a Synod Delegate are available at the back of the Church – please note that these forms need to be returned to Limerick by the 29th October.

Health & Fitness: Classes take place on Mondays from 8.00 to 9.00 p.m. in Ceol Corbrai Community Hall.  Price €8 pay as you go or €25 for 4 consecutive sessions.  Personal training €30 per hour or €100 for 4 sessions.  If interested, please call Colm on 0851111617.

Glin Defibrillator Group Training Course. The Defibrillator Group are running a training course in the use of the defibrillator and CPR on Monday and Tuesday night the 10th and 11th November from 7.30 – 10pm in Conways.  Both nights need to be completed and the cost is E25.  The course includes the following : how to assess a collapsed patient, activate the emergency services, perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, recognise the signs of choking and the appropriate technique to clear the airway, recovery position, operate a defibrillator, recognise signs of a heart attack and how to complete a FAST assessment for a patient suspected of having a stroke.  Learning to perform the skills outlined above is an interactive process that requires both knowledge and skill.  Fully qualified instructors will facilitate you with the learning process.  As a Cardiac First Responder, when you answer a call for help, you can be confident that you have given that person the best possible chance of recovery.  You have provided the initial links in the chain of survival.  If you are interested in training please contact Anne Horan on 087 9186556 or Marie Fitzgerald on 086 8691821.

Glin Library Exhibition: Glin Library has not had an exhibition for some time but the present one is making up for all that. Oisín Ryan has kindly agreed to display his models of planes and ships. This is Oisin’s hobby which he started two years ago then aged 13 years. You are welcome to come in and view them. They are so detailed that one would have to be impressed. Oisin has his homework done and has included a brief history of all the models which are based on real planes and ships.
