West Junior B League Semi-Final

Glin 2-5

St. Senan’s 2-11

We faced Foynes in the League semi-final last Thursday night in Askeaton. Wet conditions on the night made it quite testing and we found it very difficult to get into the game in the opening half. Our opponents played well during this period and had a commanding lead at half time. Our first half points came from Patrick Killeen, and wonderful effort from Patrick Madigan, who executed a great dummy solo before slotting the ball between the posts. Half time score Glin 0-2 St. Senan’s 0-9

In the second period, we started brightly with Killeen getting another point but unfortunately the concession of two goals around the 40th minute mark left us with a mountain to climb. Credit is due to our never say die spirit which has been a trademark of our team this year, as we scored two goals that put respectability on the scoreline before the end. The first was scored by James McSweeney who caught a high ball into the square before dispatching it past the keeper, making it 2 goals in 2 games. The second goal was expertly taken by Peadar Mulvihill, who Bomber Liston like, flicked a high ball into the roof of the net. Patrick Killeen scored a further free before the game came to an end. It no more than the Glin lads deserved for their efforts in the second half. Best for Glin on the night were Stephen Barrett, Patrick Killeen and David Sullivan.

Team: D. Killeen, F. Fitzgerald, S. Lyons, E. Mulvihill, S. Barrett, K. Scanlon, D. Sullivan, P. Horan, B. Mulroe, A. O’Donovan, D. Horan, P. Killeen, M. Sheehy, P. Mulvihill, G. Sheehan. Subs: J. McSweeney for D. Killeen, P. Madigan for G. Sheehan
