County Junior Champions 2014 Celebration
Intermediate County C’ship
Round 4 of the County Championship took place in Croagh last Saturday evening. We started well, with Kevin Moore and Mark Culhane kicking over two fine points from distance in the opening five minutes. It got even better in the tenth minute, when midfielder Pádraig Costello went on a solo through the defence and rifled a left footed shot to the back of the net. Cappamore then came right back into the contest, scoring four unanswered points. James Wallace got us back on track in the 25th minute when he rounded his marker and kicked a great point. Before the break, Mark added two frees giving us a lead of 4 points.
Early into the second half, Mark scored another long range point and Costello set up Moore for his third point of the game. Cappamore responded with a point against the run of play around the 40th minute but we were firmly in control and Moore and Culhane added a combined total of 4 points in the next ten minutes to give us a lead of 7 points. It should have been comfortable for us from then on but in fairness to Cappamore, they never gave up and scored four points in a row before the final whistle. After some difficult results so far in the Intermediate grade, it was great to record a victory. Our final group game is against Galbally in three weeks time.
Team: M. Stack, John Wallace, B. O’Donovan (capt.), T. Scanlon, H. Dunne, P. Madigan, E. Horan, P. Costello (1-0), S. Culhane, K. Moore (0-3), M. Sweeney, James Wallace (0-1), M. Culhane (0-7), J. Fitzgerald. Subs: D. Sheahan for A. Mulvihill, D. Horan, K. Scanlon
The Glin-Gerald Griffins combination, Shannon Gaels, took on Ballysteen in Askeaton last Thursday evening and lost 5-10 to 2-11. There are currently 3 teams, Ballysteen, Athea-Mountcollins and Shannon Gaels tied at the top of the group on 2 points so it’s all to play for.
West Junior B C’ship semi-final- Glin vs Knockaderry, Friday August 14th at 7.15 in Askeaton.
Our Junior B side take on Knockaderry in the West semi-final in Askeaton next Friday evening. After topping our group thanks to victories over St. Kieran’s and Ballysteen, we qualified directly for the semi-final. Our opponents, Knockaderry beat Ballysteen in the quarter final last weekend. We would encourage all the supporters to attend as it promises to be a great contest.
