GLIN ROVERS A V KILLEANEY 2-3 ( O Wallace, D Sheahan)
A dissapointing result last night saw us narrowly lose out to Killeaney in the first local derby of the season. Having fought back from 2-0 with goals from Olly Wallace (80 mins) and a goal from Darren Sheahan (90 Minutes) we cruely conceded a third goal from the kick off following Darrens Goal when Killeany hit us for the winning goal to make it 3-2.
We started the game well and got our first real chance on 5 mins when Paul Sheahan made a good run down the left wing to set up Olly Wallce but Olly’s Shot was deflected for a corner. On ten minutes Edmund Horan did well in midfiled to find James Wallace whose header back to Olly was a good one but Killeaney managed to clear the danger before olly could shoot. On 20 minutes Olly headed the ball from outside the box but the keeper saved. On 22 minutes Darren Sheahan sent olly in on goal with a great pass in over the defence but Ex Glin Rovers defender Christy Sweeney made a great tackle on Olly to prenvent him cutting in on goal.
Darren hit a snaphot on 28 minutes but it went wide. Edmund Horan was in the thick of action in midfield in the first half and on 30 minutes he and darren combined well resulting in a shot from edmund that went just wide. Killeaney went 1-0 almost on the stroke of half time when a dangerous ball in from the left hand side found Pat Madigan on hand to score at the far post.
Padraig Cosello came on for Shane Culhane for the second half. Killeaney started to play well in the ealrly part of the second half and Brian O Donovan and Gary Culhane did well to keep them at bay. John Wallace came on for Paul Shehan on 60 minutes and Jack Fitzgerlad came on for Karol Geoghegan. Mike Stack made a good save on 65 minutes when he had to dive low to his left hand post. We kept pressing to find an equaliser and had a good few chances but just could not find the back of the net. Killeaney were attacking us on the counter attack and Brian O Donovan showed us why he is one of the best defenders in the league tonight with a great performance in the second half, cool pressure. Gary made a goal saving tackle on 70 minutes to keep it 1-0 but we were to go 2-0 on 80 mins, from a corner Killeaney scrambled the ball into the net. We must give an awful lot of credit to Glin though. They hit back immediately after the second gaol to make it 2-1, Olly Wallace with the goal. Gary had a fine free kick brilliantly save by the killeaney keeper on 83 minutes. We made it 2-2in time added on when Darren Sheahan pounced inside the box to equalise much to the delight of the supporter but cruely we got hit by Killeaney right from the restart when one of their players managed to find himself in acres of space and in a 1-1 situatuion with Mike Stack. Mike could not prevent the third goal as he came off his line the Killeaney player dispatched the ball low and in to the goal to make it 3-2. to come back from 2-0 the way we did only to lose the game like that was a blow but the way the boys fought back from 2-0 deserves much credit.
