Glin Bridge Naming Ceremony: “THE SUN SHONE ON OUR PARADE” – Glin Development, Glin Historical Society and Glin Comhaltas would like to thank all those who attended the Commemorative Celebration in the Town Park in Glin on Easter Monday. It was a wonderful morning of celebration and entertainment and it was represented by people from near and far.  Thankfully it was a fine dry morning and the rain stayed away. We would like to thank everybody involved who contributed to making the morning such a success. We would especially like to thank the hard work of the ICA who put on a wonderful spread of sandwiches and baked goods at the Cloverfield Day Care Centre, which was enjoyed after the ceremony in the Town Park.   A huge crowd enjoyed the tea and the get together.  Hopefully everybody got to see the wonderful displays of 1916 exhibits from the Glin and Ballyguiltenane National Schools. Thanks also to Kearneys Bakery who kindly gave baked goods.  The morning was a huge success and it proves once again that Glin has a great community spirit which was evidenced by the crowds that turned up to celebrate this historic event.

1916-2016 Commemorative Poster: The Commemorative Poster which is a copy of the newly unveiled Interpretative board sold very well at the event.  It is a lovely keepsake of the Easter Rising Centenary from the Glin perspective. It features articles covering The Centenary Bridge, Constable James O ‘Brien, Irish Volunteer Eamonn T. Dore and Michael O’Connor who was an innocent casualty of the Rising.  These posters are available to order from the local shops in Glin or from any member of Glin Development.  The cost is E5 per poster.  A sample of the poster is available to view in the local shops. They can also be ordered through the Glin Festival Facebook page.

Glin Defibrillator Group: The next training will now be on Saturday 9th April.  It is a one day course, which will run from 10.30 to 4pm with a break for lunch.  It will take place in Conway’s function room at a cost of E25. For more information and to book the course please contact Marie Fitzgerald at 086 8691821 or Ann Horan on 087 9186556.

Team Limerick Clean-up. GLIN TIDY TOWNS.   Thanks to all the Volunteers who turned up on Good Friday morning to help clean up our highways and byways.  It’s great to see the pride people of Glin have in their community. We would like to thank  Team Limerick Clean-up for supplying numerous litter pickers, bags and gloves for the occasion. There are still some areas that need cleaning, so we will arrange a date in the coming weeks to have another blitz. Anyone interested in helping can contact Marie Fitzgerald or Eoghan Ryan.  We still have lots of gloves and bags and some litter pickers available. It would be great if this initiative could be continued.  Lots of bags were collected which shows that there is an amount of litter on our roads and hedgerows.  As Good Friday was a working day for a lot of the community, it would not have  been possible for some to attend the clean up.  Hopefully the next day out will be on a Saturday and those who would have liked to help but we’re not able, due to work commitments, will have the opportunity to do so.  Thank you all once again.
