Late brace breaks Glantine’s brave effort.

Glin could have found themselves behind after a sluggish start with Stack making a quick reaction save to see the ball go past his left post and 5mins later some quick defending on the line to keep the home side from scoring. The away side began to settle and get on the ball more with a lot of the play on the left side and down the middle. A number of chances were created through David O Sullivan, John Wallace, Darren Sheahan and Jack Fitzgerald but credit to Glantine’s keeper he saved well to everything that came his way. Glin were dominating in the middle of the field with Kevin Sweeney and Jack Fitzgerald putting a solid effort and winning the aerial battles. Brian O Donovan and Karol Geogehan were centre back partners today with James Wallace and Shane Culhane playing as the full backs and the defensive unit weren’t given away an inch in the defence. Glin continued to press forward in the first half with a number of corners but efforts from Jack Fitz and Kevin Sweeney couldn’t find there way past the Glantine Keeper. Glin pressed hard in the second half and they were dominant all over the field with majority of the play on the final third of the field. David O Sullivan was replaced by Ger Riordan with 25mins to go and instantly Glantines defence were on the back foot with the quick pace of Ger. With 20mins to play John Wallace got himself onto a cross, his firm header had the keeper beat but his effort came off the up right. 5mins later a great through ball from Ger Riordan found Joe Martin on the right wing, Joe sent in a dangerous ball to the near post where John Wallace was looming and to the delight of the away sides dominance his effort was on target and hit the back of the net. Glin continued to press high with some great link play with Shane Culhane, Darren Sheahan and Ger Riordan. With 5mins remaining, Glin took a quick corner, Shane Culhane’s cross found Ger Riordan at the near post and his header found the back of the net to put Glin up 2-0. This was one of the last actions of the game but 2-0 was a deserving win on the day. Glantine battled hard through out the game but Glin’s late changes and composure was key to this win.
