Thank you from Fr. Crawford to Glin Parish Community: The Golden Jubilee Mass was a wonderful experience.  It was an impressive Liturgy from start to finish and touched the hearts and minds of everybody.  I do want to say “Thank You” to the Pastoral Council members who organised the day’s events and designed in detail the various elements of the Liturgy.  The Organist & Choir – which included a big contingent of pupils and teachers from the Parish Schools – excelled themselves.  The Readers, Mass Servers and Soloist, Emelia Costello – deserve special mention.  The “Welcoming Group” extended a Cead Mile Failte to all the guests and visitors from other Parishes on behalf of the People of Glin.  Later we were all treated to a first class meal in Ceol Corbrai Community Hall.  It was an impressive performance and enjoyed by all.  Thanks to the Comhaltas Group who created a lovely atmosphere.  On behalf of my family members who were present I wish to thank you sincerely for a Day to Remember.  My congratulations to one and all.  Go raibh mile maith agaibh.  From Fr. Tom Crawford.

Sunday the 23rd June 2019 will remain a memorable day for the parish of Glin for years to come.

Glin Parish Pastoral Council hosted a wonderful celebration for the Jubilee starting with mass at 1 pm and then an evening of food, music and song in the community hall, Ceol Corbrai.  Mass was celebrated by Fr. Tom Crawford , Canon O’Keeffe, Fr. Tim Curtin, Fr Austin McNamara, and Fr. Sean O’Longaigh, in the presence of his brothers John, Andrew, Pat, & Liam & his sisters Catherine, Maura (Meade) Cork, Lena (Fox) Mitchelstown, and their extended families. Wonderful uplifting music  was provided by  our local Comhaltas group, and the Glin choir accompanied by organist,  Anne Horan.  The choir were joined by the children from both St. Fergus and Ballyguiltenane National Schools, and the wonderful angelic voice of local girl, Emelia Costello.  The church looked beautiful with the magnificent flower displays and twinkling lighted candles.  After mass the congregation moved up to Ceol Corbrai to continue the celebrations.  The Glin Mens Shed were on hand to direct parking and had worked hard to get the hall in ship shape for the event. A beautiful buffet was served which was supplied by James Stack of Wallace’s Bar and Restaurant, Glin.  James and his staff had it all under control and the food was delicious and plentiful.  Children’s food was provided by Shakeel of our local Glin Grub.

The music, song and dance continued after eating and the Comhaltas once again entertained with wonderful Irish music and singers and dancers provided great entertainment.  Fr. Crawford cut his beautifully crafted cake and Marie McKenna, Chairperson of the Pastoral Council, made a presentation on behalf of the Businesses, clubs, schools and individuals of Glin to Fr. Crawford.   Thank you to everyone who came to the Jubilee on Sunday, it is a community coming together that puts energy and joy into such an occasion.  Glin Parish Pastoral Council would also like to thank everyone who helped out in whatever capacity to make the day the success that it turned out to be.  We thank Fr. Crawford for his devoted service and commitment to the priesthood for the last 50 years and we wish him health and happiness for his years ahead.  Thank you Fr. Crawford from Glin Parish Pastoral Council and all your parishioners in Glin.

Glin Pier:  The Lifeguards will return to duty at Glin Pier on Monday, July 1 for the summer season. We thank Limerick Co. Council for providing this invaluable service.

Wallace’s Bar Closed:   The bar officially closed on June 23. A statement released by proprietors James and Dorothy Stack read ” It’s with a heavy heart we have made the decision to close Wallace’s bar on Sunday 23rd of June. We would like to thank all our regular customers our family friends and especially our staff. Unfortunately with consistent decrease in business, drink driving laws and the increase in vat on food we can no longer keep going. Again we would like to personally thank our wonderful staff who we consider friends now, without them we would be closed a long time ago”   This is yet another blow to the village with Wallace’s Bar making it 3 businesses since January 2019 to close.  We wish James, Dorothy and their young family all the very best with their future endeavours and sincerely thank both them and their staff for the wonderful food, drink, music and many happy memories made within the premises over the past couple years.
