Glin Development will commence work on the playground extension in the Town Park within the next few week. Two new pieces of equipment will be added, a carousel and a very elaborate castle piece with a huge variety of activities for all ages. The development would like to thank West Limerick Resources for their generous grant and Glin Development themselves are also contributing a sizable amount of money to the project.
The Colleen Bawn: To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the tragic murder of Ellen Hanley which took place on the Shannon Estuary near Glin, the play, the Colleen Bawn, will take place at Glin Castle on Mon Sept 9th. Dominic West, world renowned actor of the Wire, The Affair, and most recently Les Miserables, will play the leading role, joined by many local actors from the locality. A wine and cheese reception will welcome people to the castle and the Adare Gospel Choir will also be part of the programme. Further details will be announced shortly and tickets will be on sale at the usual outlets. Any enquiries contact members of Glin Development Association.
Glin Development are holding an Open Day at Glin Castle on Sunday August 25th.
Glin Pier: Foynes Yacht Club in conjunction with Glin Development are delighted to announce two new short term visitor moorings have been installed at the Pier. The Development would like to thank Foynes Yacht Club for supplying and installing the moorings.
Glin Knights Cycling Club: The Glin Knight Sportive takes place on July 21 this year. Registration takes place Saturday night before the cycle from 8.30pm to 9.30pm in Barretts Bar, Glin AND on the morning of the cycle at 8.30am in Barretts Bar with the cycle starting at 9.30am. Registration is €25 for Cycling Ireland Members and €30 for NON members. Routes are either 80k or 110k – are you up for the challenge? This years the fundraising is in aid of St. Fergus NS carpark/setdown area.
The Annual Estuary Swim: takes place this year on Saturday, July 27. All funds raised go to The Neonatal Unit UHL and The Local Arts Project. Sponsorship cards are now available from Maria Geoghegan and Eoin Ryan. A huge thanks to Limerick County Council for their continual support in this unique event every year.
Water Safety Classes: Water Safety classes will be held at Glin Pier Monday, July 8 for the week and also Monday, August 5 for the week. Full details will follow later. Take note and avail of these classes to ensure the service is provided each year.
Glin-Tri: This year The Glin Sprint Triathlon is on Saturday, September 7. As places fill fast for this popular event register now with www.triathlonireland.com Looking forward to meeting you all on the day.
Well done: Well done to former GB Rover players Cillian Mulvihill, Tom Healy their team and staff at U13 Limerick FC who have made it through to the Elite Phase. The team now face upcoming matches against Bohemian Football Club, Klub Kildare, Shamrock Rovers, Cork City and Galway.
GAA Bucket Collection: will be held on the weekend of the August Bank Holiday, 3rd, 4th & 5th August. Proceeds from this collection will be shared with St. Fergus’ National School and will go towards the new Parking/Set Down Area. All help with this collection greatly appreciated.
St. Fergus’ National School: As the school Summer Holidays begin, the Board of Management of St. Fergus’ National School, would like to express it’s sincerely thanks to the people of Glin for their immense generosity towards the recent door to door collection for the new school carpark/set down area. Míle buíochas to those who collected and especially to members of the community and beyond for their time, effort and support in this fund raising endeavour. The total amount raised through this collection to date is €16,484.45. The remaining work on the new school car park/set down area will be conducted by Paddy Healy Construction in the coming weeks. It is envisaged that the new drop off/collection system will be in place for the opening of the new school year 2019/2020.

Glin Pier: The Lifeguards will return to duty at Glin Pier on Monday, July 1 for the summer season. We thank Limerick Co. Council for providing this invaluable service.
Children’s Summer Camps 2019: The Shannon Gaels Cúl Camp will take place in Gerald Griffins GAA pitch in Ballyhahill from Monday July 29th – Friday August 2nd. Book online at kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie. Soccer Camp: The Fai Summer Soccer camp is now open. Book early to avoid disappointment. Visit www.summersoccerschools.ie for dates and locations.
Glin Baby & Toddler Group: The toddler group is now closed for the summer holidays. We will return in September. There is a new WhatsApp Group set up, if you wish to have your name added to this group please send a message to the Glin Baby & Toddler Group Facebook page with your mobile number and you will be added.
Fibre Broadband: now available in Glin. Everyone can now get 100MB rather than the current 20MB. You must ask your provider to connect you to the fibre as most people still have a copper line to the telephone pole. Ask your neighbour to ask for access too, the more that ask the quicker its done.
