West Junior League
Mountcollins 0-11
Glin 3-12
We travelled to Mountcollins last Saturday afternoon for Round 3 of the West Junior League. It was a very good first half from our point of view. Aided by the wind, we racked up 3-8 in the opening half hour. After Shane Culhane opened the scoring will a nice point, the floodgates opened, with Ger Lyons scoring two very well taken goals, either side of terrific solo goal which was expertly dispatched to the back of the net by Killian Lenihan. In fairness to our opponents they were unlucky not to get a goal of their own back straight away, with Michael Stack pulling off a brilliant point blank save and corner back, Jack Scannell, making a number of clever interceptions which allowed us to keep scores conceded to just 2 points in the first half. During the remainder of the half, two converted frees from Lyons, three fine left footed points from Shane Culhane and a point each from the industrious Edward Mulvihill and Gary Culhane saw us take a 15 point lead in at half time.
Mountcollins really took the game to us in the second half and reeled off a number of points in the opening ten minutes. However, we kept the scoreboard ticking over through points from Gary Culhane, the impressive Killian Lenihan, Shane Culhane and a very sweet strike from Ed Mulvihill which meant that the game ended 3-12 to 0-11 in our favour. The club would like to wish a speedy recovery to the Mountcollins corner forward who suffered an unfortunate injury towards the end of the match. Best for Glin were Scannell, Lenihan, Lyons and Shane Culhane.
