Glin GAA Club Notes …

U15 ChampionshipShannon Gaels

1-11Drom/Broadford 2-4

Our U15s proved too strong for Drom-Broadford in the first round of the U15 championship. Next up are St. Kieran’s in two weeks which should be a cracker. Our boys played some great football and could have been further ahead at half time. However, the team held firm in the second half and were well ahead going into the last 5 minutes, when Drom Broadford scored 2 late goals.Team: Daragh Woulfe, Conor Fitzgerald, Thabo Ncube, Seamus Dillane, Daragh Mullane, Colm McNamara, Jack Adams, Adam Bennett, Aiden Healy, Gavin Thompson, Charlie McDonagh, Luke Buckley, Graham McDonagh, Seán McEnery, Daniel Regan, Fergal Leahy, Keelan Lonergan, Jim Culhane.

West Intermediate League

Newcastle West 0-13Glin 2-2

Played on greasy conditions, we were always chasing the game from the off but never gave in. NCW were very physical and full of running, though our lads stood up to the challenge bravely. We had some great individual performances especially Jamie and Ronan, to name a few. We kept in touch through two timely Paraic O’Connor goals. Next up is Fr. Casey’s in Glin next week.Squad: S O’Sullivan, A Mulvihill, S Horan, P Cregan, T Woulfe, J Fitzgerald, C Shine, R Culhane, K Lenihan, J Scannell, I Sheehan, P O’Connor, F Henderson, C Culhane, E Mulvihill, John Wallace, O Wallace, John Daniel Hickie.

West Junior League

Glin 0-13Athea 1-13. It was the proverbial game of two halves in Páirc Uí Chathaláin last Wednesday evening. We started the first half quite well with Ger Lyons kicking six points and Gary Culhane, Oliver Wallace and Cian Culhane also getting on the scoresheet. There was some excellent defensive play from our backs too which curtailed the Athea forwards, restricting them to just 3 points in the opening thirty minutes. Halftime Glin 0-9 Athea 0-3.However the second period proved a much different affair. To Athea’s credit they kicked some excellent points from distances and were very efficient in taking their opportunities. Ger Lyons slotted over 3 more points while Cian Culhane added his second. By the second water break we were 4 points behind. Although we had a number of opportunities to close the gap, a combination of bad luck, errors and an excellent diving save by the Athea goalkeeper meant that the game finished 1-13 to 0-13 in Athea’s favour. It was a disappointing 2nd half performance which brought our winning streak to an end, but it’s a result from which we will have learnt a lot. Man of the match for Glin was Cormac Healy, who gave an exhibition of tenacious and clean corner-back play throughout, with strong performances also coming from Ger Lyons, Killian Lenihan and Fionn Henderson. Next up in our final league group game is Ballysteen where our boys will hope to get back to winning ways before the championship begins.Team: Michael Stack, Cormac Healy, Tadhg Culhane, Kieran Scanlon, Killian Lenihan, Paddy Fitzgerald, Fionn Henderson, Edmond Horan, Gary Culhane (0-1), Oliver Wallace (0-1), Shane Culhane, Shane O’Sullivan, Paul Sheahan, Ger Lyons (0-9), Edward Mulvihill. Subs: Cian Culhane (0-2) for Horan, Joe Stack for Mulvihill, David Horan, Seán Lyons, John Daniel Hickie , Darragh McKenna, Darragh Leahy.

Glin Emmets LGFA

Last Sunday evening was first ever training session for the newly formed Glin Emmets Ladies. There was a big turnout of U6, U8 and U10 girls which shows the huge interest and appetite there is for Gaelic Football amongst these age groups and this bodes really well for the future. The next training is on this coming Saturday morning, July 10th, at 9am.

Limerick v Cork Tickets

In the interest of fairness, all our club members who expressed an interest in going to the Limerick v Cork Munster hurling championship semi-final were eligible to enter a draw for the two tickets we were allocated. The winner was Jack Dunne.

Well done to the Limerick team on their well deserved victory over Cork and hopefully now they will follow it up with a third Munster final victory in a row by beating Tipperary.
