Egg-cellent result for Easter Fundraiser in Glin. St. Fergus NS Glin Parents Council is delighted to announce that it raised €5,041.25 through its recent Easter fundraiser. The weather didn’t disappoint and beautiful April skies greeted walkers and coffee-morning goers on Saturday, April 9th in the picturesque west Limerick village of Glin. Children and adults soaked up the atmosphere and took to the Knight’s Walk, while others attended the coffee morning at Ceol Corbrai in the village centre, all supporting the fundraising efforts of St. Fergus NS Parents Council. The hall in Ceol Corbrai was full of colour, cakes and coffee and the community had a chance to catch up with one another. In addition to the funds raised through walk sponsorship and cake sales, raffle tickets were in big demand, with local legend Big Maggie very kindly doing the honours to a crowd of very excited ticket-holders. Joint Secretary Lisa Henderson was thrilled with the outcome of the event. “The whole day went even better than we could have imagined. The support from the local community blew us away. All the effort was worth it and we know the difference these funds will make to the school. On behalf of the Parents Council I would like to thank everyone who supported us. It means a lot to know that people care so much about children in the community.” After a very busy and productive morning, it was clear that the community in Glin and the surrounding parishes are well and truly invested in the village’s next generation. In addition to all those who participated on the day itself, St. Fergus NS Parents Council would like to thank everyone who baked or donated goods and to all the businesses and individuals who made donations. The next event in the Parents Council’s Fundraising Calendar is a school disco on June 17th.
Glin Baby & Toddler Group: what a fantastic first week back last Friday. A huge crowd came with lots of smallies, it was truly wonderful to see the group back and in flying form. We look forward to welcoming everyone back again this this Friday morning from 10am at Coel Corbrai Hall. Contribution of €3 per family. Everyone is welcome.
Glin Homes for the Elderly & Glin Development Association: arranged a Cead Mile Failte in Cloverfield last Thursday for our Ukrainian neighbours who recently arrived in The Lanterns Motel, Tarbert. Transport was arranged by our Councillor John Sheahan to bring the group to Cloverfield in Glin. A lovely dinner was provided by Rachel Duff and her staff. Over dinner new friendships were forged with our Ukrainian friends as everyone chatted and got to know each other through the help of the interpreters. Some of the representatives from Tarbert also came along to introduce the group.
What a wonderful group of people! They were extremely touched by the solidarity shown by everyone who came to Cloverfield to lend support and make them welcome. It was a lovely afternoon and the Ukraine girls sang a song from their homeland which was very moving. It is unimaginable what these Ukraine people are living through. It is but a small gesture to offer a helping hand and to make them feel welcome and supported in our country. We now have a main contact for the group, and it is intended to provide further support going forward. Thank you to those who were able to come to Cloverfield today and to the wonderful staff who looked after everyone so professionally.
