About Us

Welcome to Glin, a heritage town situated in West Limerick on the banks of the Shannon Estuary Way and the Wild Atlantic Way. Rich in history, culture and folklore, it offers a wide variety of amenities, leisure, sporting and cultural activities all year round. Glin is a prosperous and industrious town boasting a wide range of services for the local community and tourists.

Home to the Knights of Glin from the 13th century, our castles and historical buildings bear witness to the influence of the FitzGerald family on our town throughout the ages. Our rich and varied past remind us of the Castle Sieges of the 1600s, the Workhouses of Famine Times, the Salmon Fishing Industry of the 1800s, the Trade and Tragedies of life along the estuary.

Our Heritage Walks with interpretive signage along the Shannon Estuary and through Glin Castle Demesne offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside with a wide variety of shore and woodland flora and fauna to be enjoyed. The opening of the Knights of Glin Visitor Experience in 2022 has given a marvelous opportunity to community and visitors alike to re-imagine the 800 – year story of the Knights from when they arrived, right down to the last Knight, Desmond Fitzgerald, and the relationship with the community in recent years.

Glin has a vibrant community with many clubs and organisations that cater to all ages and interests. In 2009 this community spirit was nationally acknowledged when we were the proud winners of the All Ireland Pride of Place.

Glin Development

Glin Development

Since 1995, our team has succeeded in understanding the needs of the community and delivering reliable solutions to serve our residents and visitors.

Glin Development Association CLG is a voluntary organisation whose members have undertaken many ambitious projects to improve and enhance the general aesthetic appearance of our town and to develop industrial, social and recreational facilities to benefit the entire community.

The members of Glin Development are involved in many seasonal activities throughout the year with the help of West Limerick Resources RSS and TUS workers programme. Park and heritage walks maintenance, grass cutting, litter collecting, playground inspections, Tidy Town activities, Christmas street lighting, festivals organisation, fundraising and other cultural and social activities ensure a clean, tidy, vibrant environment in our town. Credit is due to all members for the many voluntary hours they give to the community and we welcome any new members who would like to join our organisation.

Thanks to the very generous contributions from the people of Glin, and the funding made available from West Limerick Resources and Limerick County Council, we have made considerable progress in recent times.
